Stereo Modification

This is my custom stereo system that was designed and built by me.  I used to work at a stereo store, so once again it was time to put my experience to work.  My last custom system used 3 JL 10w6's and took up my whole trunk.  I must say this one sound better and leaves me much more useable space.

The brains of the operation is an Alpine CDA-9855 head unit installed in a custom flush mount dash kit. It also has the Sirius satellite radio box and the Ipod interface box connected to it.

Power is supplied to all the speakers from an Alpine MRV-357 5 channel amp that is flush mounted in the passenger trunk wall.  Before reaching the speakers the signal is routed through 4 JL Audio crossovers. Two  2-way crossovers for the rear and two 3-way crossovers for the front all mounted to the underside of the rear deck

The front stage consist of a custom 3-1/2 way set up. In each door there is a 6-1/2 inch woofer a 4 inch mid and 3/4 inch coupled tweeter with a second 1inch tweeter in the A pillars.  The original door panel only held a 6 inch speaker so I had to custom make fiberglass door pods to fit all the speakers I wanted to put in.  My old system had 3 tens so I wanted some mid bass to cover what the 12 inch woofer wouldn't create so I made custom 8 inch speaker boxes for the rear deck, and placed a tweeter over the woofer for some rear fill. (I've since removed the boxes and they are running free air)

.

With my old system I had about 3 ft of trunk space to put anything for a trip, so I wanted a lot more room for luggage now that I'm a little older.  I decide to go with one 12w3 woofer, to leave more trunk space I created a box that hugged the drivers side trunk wall using fiberglass for a form fit.  With the new box in place I have close to 9 ft of trunk floor, and I can finally fit a rear strut bar for better handling as well
