Today I repainted the M5 spoiler because I wasn't
happy with the paint match from last time. I used a little too much pearl
and it came out yellow. This time I think it came out much better.
At the moment I'm driving the P11, so install won't be for a few day.
here's a painted picture

I also painted the 3rd sport wheel I was working on. It's currently
drying waiting a coat of clear. But the 4th wheel that was a mess after
the paint remover is a little better now after using a full can of remover and
alot of scraping. Tomorrow I'll start priming it and soon they will be all
painted and ready to go on the car (maybe a week or two)

much
better than before
while waiting for paint to dry and paint remover to do its job, I started
working on my dual corners. I got some GM dual filament sockets w/
pigtails from the auto parts store, along with some clear 1157 bulbs. The
sockets didn't fit perfectly tight, so I installed the bulbs and used a little
bit of silicone to hold the sockets into the corner light assemble.
(notice the 3 wires coming from the socket)
Tomorrow I'm gonna wire the turn signal and the ground to the factory plug
(mounted on side of light) and leave the parking light wire loose so I can
hook it up when the lights go back in the car.

I didn't get a chance to get work done on the wheels,
but I did get a little work done on the grill. we'll call this version 1.0
because there is a chance I'll redo it in a different style. I started
with a jig saw and a dremal and shaved out the cross and the infiniti emblem

I still have some filling to do for the spots where cutout left a
void. After that It will be time for paint and mesh. I still might
change to this style grill, but if I did that
one first there would be no going back to this style without getting a new
grill.
Progress as of 9/19/08
I got some more work done on the grill today. I
started by gluing some ABS plastic to the inside of the grill using crazy glue
to form a dam so the filling material wouldn't fall through.

Now I could of just used some Bondo to fill the voids, but it would of
eventually cracked and looked bad, so instead I used JBweld epoxy. I just
mixed it up and smeared it into the void.

Its harder to sand the epoxy then Bondo, but its worth it in the end when you
don't have to redo it every few years.

Now all that's left to do is hit it with a thin coat of Bondo to smooth it
out and its ready for paint.
While I was waiting on the epoxy to cure I worked on the final wheel. I actually
sanded wheel 3 a little first and gave it another coat of paint because there
were a few imperfections I didn't feel I could live with, but now
its done and waiting on clear coat (again). I sanded alot of the left over
stubborn paint off the last wheel, but it was still pretty nasty, so I started
with the filler primer to help build the low spots a little better.
(estimated cost for the custom grill is about $20 in materials plus paint, but I
had everything needed so its free for me
)

If you look close you can still see the chipped leftover paint under the
primer. Monday I'll do some more heavy sanding to knock down more of the
high spots and give it another few coats of filler primer. Hopefully it
will be ready for paint soon after that, Maybe by Wednesday if time allows me to
work on it
I'm still not quite happy with the trunk spoiler so it will get repainted
again. I have to learn to leave these little things alone, its only a
winter beater, but I'm too much of a perfectionist and I can't call it finished
till it meets my approval. I'll probably wait till the grill is ready for
paint and do them both together.
Progress as of 9/22/08
not much going on, just alot of sanding and priming
of the grill and the final wheel. I spend a good hour sanding off the
rough spots on the wheel, then I gave it another coat of filler primer. I
hope to give it a little more fine sanding tomorrow then it should be ready for
paint.

I also sanded down the grill and gave it a light coat of filler in the areas
where I cut and filled with epoxy. then I gave the whole grill a coat of
filler primer to get a better idea of what needs more sanding and filling.
This should also be ready for paint by the end of tomorrow if all goes well.

The plan is to get at least the grill and spoiler finished by the weekend,
so I can install them. I'm hoping to do alot of work on the car this
weekend, the plan is to get the electronics installed and if it arrives in time,
the pre-cut tint should get installed too. I'm not sure I like the dealer
option fogs, so I ordered another set of 3" round fogs that might go in
there instead, hopefully they come by the weekend too.
Progress as of 9/23/08
Today I got alot of sanding and painting done.
I finally got the last wheel in good enough shape to paint, but the primer was
still a little wet so I left the paint till tomorrow. The M5 spoiler got
its final paint job, I don't care if I come in tomorrow and it has a giant hair
in it, its going on the car anyway.

I also painted the custom shaved grill and I'm very happy with the out
come.

while I was in a painting mood I grabbed a piece of mesh I had laying around and
gave it a few coats of black.
tomorrow I'll attach the mesh to the grill so its all ready to be
installed this weekend. If all goes well with the final wheel I should
have it painted tomorrow and cleared Friday, then when I take the car to work
Monday I can install them all. keep your fingers crossed

wheels are almost ready to go![]()

I painted the last wheel today, I just have to clear coat it and they are all
done and ready to go on the car
the post man delivered my fog lights and I think I might get creative with my
fog light setup. I think I'm gonna use a 3" Hella driving light next
to a 2-1/2" Amber foglight

I also might use the dealer option fog bezel to give it a nice finished
look, but we'll see what happens when its time for install, I might no need it
Progress as of 9/25/08
Unfortunately this weekend is looking like its gonna
be a rainout. If I'm lucky I might get some time Sunday, but it doesn't
look good. But I grabbed some parts and raced over to my parents after
work and installed them before it rains today so I have some progress to show.
Grill finished and installed

I did notice that there is an issue with the front assembly lining up, so
when I get more time I'm gonna have to take the grill and the headlights out and
tweak all the fitment. It all seems to be pushed in a little on the
drivers side. I think there is a broken headlight mount there that is
causing the problem.
I think that I'm going to keep this style grill, I just want to shave the crisscross
out of the bumper to match.
Spoiler finished and installed

I really like the way it came out, its very subtle, sporty and classy at
the same time. Now I can't wait to get the wheels installed.
