How to Convert  to Hydraulic Hood Lifts

Parts & Tools Needed

2/Hydraulic Hood lifts, (Pep Boys part # Sg327001 $24.99 each) make sure bolts are supplied one way or the other
    Electric Drill
    Tap and die set

You don't have to use the same hydraulic lift I did but I was back and forth between PebBoys for a week picking and choosing rods I thought would work, so If you want to save some hassel use the same ones.

Instructions

The first step is to remove the 10mm bolt that holds the fender to the car about 18 inches before the hinge.  Then you need to drill out the bolt hole to accommodate the larger ball bolt. A 5/16" drill bit will do the job, be careful not to let the drill slip or it will make a mess of your fender.  Now that the hole is larger you will need to tap it to allow the larger ball bolt to thread into the hole.  Now that the hole is enlarged and threaded its time to screw the ball bolt in using the supplied washer.  Next snap on the Hydraulic lift and line it up with the hood side of the hinge , the middle of the eyelet should fall just between the two bumps in the side of the hinge (you shouldn't have to open the hood wider) Mark the center of where the eyelet will sit.  Try to get it centered on the bracket so there is no weak spot where it can break.  Drill and tap the hinge the same as before but start with a small bit so the hole is guaranteed to be centered and the bit won't slip.  I used the same ball bolt but cut of the ball so it would clear the fender, but you can use any bolt the fits for this.  Put the supplied washer between the hood and the eyelet so the movement of the lift won't be inhibited by the hinge. Do the same procedure on the other side and attach the hydraulic lifts, and now your ready to remove the prop rod.  When all is said and done it should look like below.
