How to Make Custom Black (stealth) Corner Lenses
I got the idea for this project from a fellow forum member Kevin AKA Domiken. With the 2002 sport black headlights installed the factory corner lights look out of place. So I opened them up and painted the reflector inside black. Before I attempted this project I ordered an extra set of corners from Car-parts.com so I wouldn't damage my only set of corners. I strongly suggest you do to because I rushed and broke one removing the lenses, so remember to take your time.
The first step once you receive your lights is to preheat you oven to 200*. Take a cookie sheet and line it with tinfoil so you won't be eating plastic chip cookies. After the oven is hot put the lenses on the cookie sheet in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Make sure you keep a close eye on them so they don't melt or burn
After the lights are hot you need to slowly pry the lenses off with a flat screw driver. I did this one at a time so the other stayed hot while I worked, and as the one I worked on cooled I switched. you have to pry the rear housings up around the 4 clip spots or else you will crack the lights while prying. I may take a few times heating before you get the lenses off, but don't try to force it or it WILL break.
After the lenses are removed this is a good time to take out the yellow reflector if you didn't already do it. All it takes is one screw at this point, allot easier than all that dremal work. Now you have to make the area ready for paint. The best thing to do is tape a small part of the reflector, so you will leave a little chrome to intensify the light. After you are taped lightly sand the chrome so the paint can adhere.
Now your ready to paint. I taped the out side of the light so the glue and the trim didn't get covered with paint. For my lights I chose black to match my 2002 black sport headlights, but you can also paint these to match your car if you desire, I recommend a High temp paint so it will survive the oven. Paint the inside of the light with a few light coats and your pretty much done. Leave the lights a few hours or over night to dry.
To reassemble the lights I put the 2 pieces together the best I could them put them back in the oven for a little while. Once they are hot again keep squeezing them until they are back to there original spot. You may need to let them get good and hot before they will get there.
Now using the instructions for headlight removal in the HOW TO CLEAR CORNER LIGHTS section, remove the head lights and take off your old corners so the new ones can be installed. Put the new ones in and your all set.
